Noorwegen bedankt

Noorwegen zegt ja tegen Open Source, welk signaal zal de EU aanstaande woensdag afgeven naar Microsoft als het stemt over de softwarepatenten?

The Norwegian minister for modernisation (nice job title) says the government will no longer accept the use of proprietary formats.

Without mentioning Microsoft, or anyone else, directly, Morten Andreas Meyer said: “Proprietary formats will no longer be acceptable in communication between citizens and government.”

He referred to “the spreadsheet almost everyone uses” and said it would be the last time he used Windows Media player to broadcast the announcement online.

Meyer called on all government departments to have plans in place for use of Open Source software by the end of 2006. The “eNorge 2009” plan will provide all citizens with an electronic ID and personal home page.
