soon

sigSIP has been around for a long time. Moreover, its a fundamental part in the 3G phone plans, which is all about using your phone more over the internet (which is much more than just website browsing). The good news is that with SIP your phone can become as open source and adjustable as the computer is at the moment and its becoming standard soon!

A dedicated innovation workgroup, SIG, has now started to promote and organise this new technology in the netherlands. Will we soon be able to call friends by email adress instead of phone number, I’m in for it.

The official Press release:

As of next week The Nederlands will have a national platform around internet telephony and SIP. The initiative comes from the Dutch branch of the Internet Society, ISOC.nl. Internet telephony is changing the telecom world at an increasing pace. The SIG is aimed at catalysing innovation around this global trend in The Netherlands by bringing the right people from various sectors together around the open technologies that will enable this change, i.e. service developers, hardware vendors, (open source) programmers, business developers, administrators, regulators, standards architects and IT lawyers.
