What happens when you refuse a shot from JOHNY JOHNY of the Tiki bar crew…? You get a site game-banner.
I have read in a report recently that 50% of all internet traffic was related to social networking sites. Moreover, mostly youngsters use these sites en masse to socialize, so probably even more than 50% of the youngsters internet spendage is on those sites.
Then I noticed this article at Tijs: US House: Schools must block MySpace, many other sites
This new law, when passed, will further restrict the free and uncensored development of American youngsters. Not only shows it that the US Congress is totally out of touch with the internet, it furthermore limits the liberties and rights of it’s own minors. It empowers parents, liberal and conservative, to put an halt to their children’s e-learning and socializing skills.
It is another sign of America’s political fears towards the internet. While claiming to innovate and provide their children the best and most available information and view on the world, and teaching them they live in the land of the brave and free. It is more and more becoming a very xenophobic, backward and paranoid un-democratic part of the world.
Alex Barnett has an interesting overview of the current trends in programming languages. Its not all telling, but gives some perspective on it.

I’ve been biking passed this wall for a while and just been wondering how long the graffiti has been on it..
Wall part one, part two & part three.
All 35 raw pictures here (67 Mb) .
Yes I need a better camera, yes its not the best graffiti.

Update:
The congress is over and sofar the event seems pretty succesful. Much done and the next event probably I guess going to be even bigger.. great stuff. If I can be so free, I like to add some tips too. I couldn’t find the IRC chat which nor the official site or the not-linked-to empty wordcamp wiki didn’t talk about. I did found it out the day after (!) via good Laughing Squid. Also when logged in the IRC I found out that additional media material could be ftp’ed to a site, why didn’t I see that earlier? I have great respect for the guys over there so just take those notes as constructive..
Current impressions are spread online which means many windows, but my best guess at this moment probably would be blogherald and Dan’s Notes, great job guys! For photos the previous mentioned sites have links to e.g. Flickr. [This is an follow-up post of this post]
How can you reject the original theme from a movie?
I see it more and more often it seems.

Some news really start making you wonder how dumb people are. For example an very well paid politician that pleads for the ten commandments but only knows 3 of them. Or an event like September 11, where just 5 years later already almost a third doesn’t know the year anymore.
Wow, the patents deinnovation industry has found its new heaven: Wallstreet. They already signed for certain ways of trading (!) , but don’t worry tomorrow you can just skip complete business models. *sign*
Update: The European circus will unfortunally likely kickstart again

We wrote before about a need for at least investigation of the effects of mass data storage of online user information. Not the least to say that in the coming information age this issue has to be addressed not only in the online environment but even more offline. The recent blunder of AOL might have given some good effects. Still more awareness and research for policy is welcome I would say. For example checking the options as this interesting R-win post points out. Just killing sites that do profiles is not the way to go. Also dutch phonebook companies that struggle to keep everyone’s phone number findable (due to lack of mobile phones numbers of competition companies), might take notice of a recent survey; Half of the people interviewed didn’t need one place for all the numbers.
I thought in the Netherlands Christmas always came too early but Harrods, London, beats it. It’s still summer and 140 days before Christmas, but Santa Claus is performing at the store: video. Commerce killing culture.

Not new, growing? Meanwhile here’s the introduction (more chat )

While detaining as Australia seems to become more common place, not to name the countries. One creative reaction to this is the game Woomera. Will it help?
I don’t like lists but this one I actually find interesting. I’m curious of the list of for example Dijkstra.
Eric Meijer (m$) talking about VB programming language. [50 min.]
I’m not sure if I share his views, first do some reading I guess.
I like that Zooomr is still further developing its picture options.

Jeremiah Grossman came up with a really clever way of using Javascript to find what pages you’ve visited recently. It goes like this: when a link has been visited, you can use the :visited pseudo-class to style it. Using Javascript, you can walk through all of the links on your page and grab their styles; comparing a link’s style to the style given to visited links in the CSS will tell you whether or not a site has been visited. Seems innocent enough, until you realize that this can be applied to a large list of links. A site will know whether or not have been to any of the sites on their list. Combine that with a little Ajax, a database and a cookie, and you can track where your return users have been over time.
