Being Social “UnAmerican”

sensorI have read in a report recently that 50% of all internet traffic was related to social networking sites. Moreover, mostly youngsters use these sites en masse to socialize, so probably even more than 50% of the youngsters internet spendage is on those sites.

Then I noticed this article at Tijs: US House: Schools must block MySpace, many other sites

This new law, when passed, will further restrict the free and uncensored development of American youngsters. Not only shows it that the US Congress is totally out of touch with the internet, it furthermore limits the liberties and rights of it’s own minors. It empowers parents, liberal and conservative, to put an halt to their children’s e-learning and socializing skills.

It is another sign of America’s political fears towards the internet. While claiming to innovate and provide their children the best and most available information and view on the world, and teaching them they live in the land of the brave and free. It is more and more becoming a very xenophobic, backward and paranoid un-democratic part of the world.
