datafun

We wrote before about a need for at least investigation of the effects of mass data storage of online user information. Not the least to say that in the coming information age this issue has to be addressed not only in the online environment but even more offline. The recent blunder of AOL might have given some good effects. Still more awareness and research for policy is welcome I would say. For example checking the options as this interesting R-win post points out. Just killing sites that do profiles is not the way to go. Also dutch phonebook companies that struggle to keep everyone’s phone number findable (due to lack of mobile phones numbers of competition companies), might take notice of a recent survey; Half of the people interviewed didn’t need one place for all the numbers.
