MU

Klein log bangkoktalk 200 pxThis month I will try to build a multi-user weblog based on Wordpress MU (MU forums).

WordPress MU is multi-user version of the famous WordPress blogging application. It is ideal for people wanting to offer a hosted version of WordPress. Using WordPress Multi-user edition you will be able to people be able to sign up for a new blog and have them securely manage their templates and settings without affecting any other users. Only one blog per user is allowed, but you can have unlimited users, and you can have multiple users on a single blog.

I will test the website on www.bangkoktalk.tv, if you are interested to participate testing and maybe building the website you’re welcome!

More information about my motives can be found here (dutch)

ibn While probably Marco Polo is a better known great explorer, it might be time now (in the field of land explorers) to start remembering this man, Ibn Battuta too.
With 120,000 km* of travels a far greater traveler than Polo, he undoubtely has some interesting stories to tell.
To sprint through his travels check this site or look at his dedicated fan site. (*source: Lonely Planet)

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006 by Administrator Barnhard Blog

oberhamMore and more laws for less civil rights in the US.

One bit of trivia that caught our eye was the elimination of habeas corpus. which apparently used to be the right of anyone who’s tossed in prison, to appear in court and say, “Hey, why am I in prison?”

Less PDA more Smart Phone

Thursday, October 12th, 2006 by Administrator Barnhard Blog

pda

Right now, smartphones are the new hotness and PDAs are old and busted. At least that’s what a new report from research firm Gartner says. During the first half of 2006, shipments of PDAs and smartphones grew 57 percent over the same period in 2005, totalling 42.1 million units. 34.7 million of those were smartphones, with the remainder PDAs.

If we don’t count the TomTom (navigational options) of PDA, would this be the trend?

Free Culture

Saturday, October 14th, 2006 by Administrator Barnhard Blog

freecultureLawrence Lessig argues that the current media-industry and copyright system blindly push for their safeguarding and defending commercial goals in such way that they have become responsible for the destruction of the youth-culture on the Internet. He fears that the Media-industry is now pushing as far to ban music exchange and mashing altogether [jeroendb]. For example ideas as building software to kill good singing fans , kill the free availability of the song texts, mass sue youtube and myspace, introduce DRM forms that just corrupt music and more. Unsurprising there is now even a “down with drm contest” at freeculture.org.

O’Reilly fears Holland

Monday, October 16th, 2006 by Administrator Barnhard Blog

Give the video 2 minutes for the quote:

“O’REILLY: My biggest fear is that we become Holland, all right? That we’re the Netherlands, because that’s the vision that Soros and the press and the ACLU have. ” [Transcript]

Since Bill factual arguments are just terrible, in some way it probably is a compliment he has that fear. Just do the opposite. For the rest, let’s not spend too much time on him.
