Cyclomedia heeft heel Nederland fotografisch vastgelegd in 360 graden-panoramafoto’s. Met nieuwe opname- technologie rijdt het bedrijf nu België, Zwitserland en Zweden in. Google stond nog niet voor de deur voor Street View-foto’s.
Met 34 autootjes rijdt Cyclomedia doorlopend door Nederland om alle gebouwen en wegen letterlijk in beeld te brengen. Gisteren maakte het bedrijf uit Waardenburg bekend dat het de laatste foto heeft genomen om Nederland voor 100 procent in beeld te brengen. Volgend jaar beginnen de chauffeurs opnieuw.

“Extraordinary news for computer scientists and the Open Source community was announced over the weekend, as the source code of the MULTICS operating system (Multiplexed Information and Computing Service), the father of UNIX and all modern OSes, has finally been opened. Multics was an extremely influential early time-sharing operating system and introduced a large number of new concepts, including dynamic linking and a hierarchical file system. It was extremely powerful, and UNIX can in fact be considered to be a ’simplified’ successor to MULTICS.(via)

Data Retention

We have often argued that data collecting, management and our privacy are way below the levels we need in our growing information society. Especially since its in human nature to fail or abuse.
Here’s another example from the british government, of how easy things can get screwed up.. “Losing” just some 25 million data records, National insurance number, Name, address and birth date, Partner’s details, Names, sex and age of children,a couple of million Bank/savings account details. All by a pretty random junior guy at the government, who could illegally download all data and burn it..
