WP Brecker is out
While in January I was totally used to the new administration section of WP 2.5. But with the final 2.5 release I conclude, like many other, that this release is like 1.5 and 2.1: a major one.
It is the right answer for the demand of more simplicity *think tumblr. At the same time Wordpress has actually managed to automate the plugin management.
Moreover, when you listen careful to Matt, notice how much more ambitious (in concrete terms) he getting again. Talking faster when mentioning mobile development and the growth of core script developers (now 100 people stong).
The general trend that the best basic plugins are integrated into Wordpress continues. The new image library mechanism sounds like a great development. We haven’t really used most image library options because browsing images in your wordpress is a pain. If the view options could improve so that large amounts of images are easily looked at, this might change. For the next version I do hope the tag integration and extra options are optimized. Many plugins in this field are at the moment still incompatible.
Meanwhile Wordcamps are really starting to take off as an great part of the wordpress community. Quite a change.

The NextWeb conference was while back, there’s a couple of reviews. Dutch Broadcaster VPRO screened their documentary about wikipedia controverses too. It can be watched here online.

Still no Whistleblower protection
We wrote before that whistleblowers in the Nederlands aren’t really protected. Tomorrow there is a special on Dutch tv regarding the difference with the United States. One of the countries with a wide protection scene, sure.. But even there it is a tough battle already (rebuttal for blowing a whistle for war lies).
The angle of the documentary seems to bring forward the financial benefits of making room for whistleblowers. Yes, we should allow whistleblowers only when it saves us money?
If that is what it takes for politicians to start listening and making at least some improvements.
In a wider scope, corruption is only expected to diminish when people dare to step forward. That’s the difference between the rulebook and day-to-day practise.
The Ochtenden (Dutch Radio Show) has a discussion about it.

Getting a wrong standard
Getting a bureaucrat decide those who have knowledge regarding standards, should leave the room, and then decide whatever he wants.
There were 30 in the bed and the little one said, “Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and 23 fell out.
There were 7 in the bed and the little one said, “Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and 4 fell out.
There were 3 in the bed and the little one said, “Roll over, roll over.”
So they all rolled over and 2 fell out…
There was 1 in the bed and the little one said, “Norway votes Yes!”
OOXML Wrong? Because it is a broken standard.
Update. for some strange event, however most are not in favor thankfully.
