Privacyschending in Nederland

persoonsbewijs

This is a simple, good infographic that seeks to explain why traffic on freeways slows to a crawl without any apparent reason to drivers. By Stephen J. Beard and Rich Exner in The Plain Dealer. EDIT: Here’s a link to the original article, and a high-res PDF of the infographic.

        Climategate: Those hacked e-mails

Now that the conspiracy theorists have blown off steam, it’s time for a more sober analysis of those e-mails and what they mean. I can’t go through all of them, there are far too many, and . So I’ve taken the two that seem to be getting conspiracy theorists most worked up — Phil Jones’s e-mail about “Mike’s Nature trick” and Kevin Trenberth’s e-mail about a “travesty.” I’m glad to see that skeptic websites that cover the science understand what these e-mails actually mean. As you’ll see, very few commentators who jumped on the conspiracy bandwagon even before reading the e-mails mandged to get it right. [Youtube]

            Kitty steals your money ;-)

If you think inanimate objects can’t be endearing, try this adorable little piggy bank. From the outside, it just looks like a cardboard box with a plate of fish on it; if you put a coin on the fish, though, you hear a little meow and a cat sneaks its head out of the box and furtively steals the coin away with its paw.

Incredible Speed of a Live Christmas Tree Fire – PSA Video. PSA showing the incredible speed of a live Christmas tree fire. Fire spreads up the tree and gushes across the ceiling, setting the rest of the room ablaze. Smoke engulfs the frame from the top down until all is black. It’s a real eye-opener as to the dangers of a short in a string of Christmas lights. [via]

                        WP 2.9 is out

WordPress 2.9 has some nice extra features as picture editing, but I think the real big news is coming in the next version (3.0). Already presented in June: With WP 3.0, very likely, WP MU features will come with every standard WP. That’s big.
