[via]

          Happy Memories vs Happy Experiences

There is increasingly interest in happiness. However articles and books unfortunately make too little correct distinction between happy memories and experiences, which make a big difference. If you want to optimize your happiness, each needs a different approach. Social Economics clearly has much ground to gain here.

Why User Competency Matters in SD

                        friendwheel

Why User Competency Matters in Social Design

Take an interest in what your users are good at. Take an interest in how they are good at being social with and through your service or application. Learn how to observe what users are doing and how their social habits vary. Think outside yourself and from the perspectives of other people.

Their behaviors may not give them away entirely, but if you develop a palette of personal and social skills that you can use to relate to people different from you, your design insights will be that much smarter.

App is Crap (why Apple is bad for your health)

I was living in Europe in 2000 when the first WAP phones (Wireless Access Protocol) were introduced. These phones were so over hyped. They were going to bring the Internet to your mobile phones ushering in the era of “m-commerce.” Gag.

Fast forward a nearly a decade. I’m now a VC. Everybody and their mothers are coming into my offices proclaiming that their developing the latest iPhone App. Kleiner Perkins launches an iFund. The new manta is “what are you doing about the iPhone.” I have the same gag reflexes. The model is all wrong.

Who needs turntables when you have cardboard?

                            cardboard record player

Who needs turntables when you have cardboard? GGRP Sound has come up with a brilliant way to play records: with the record sleeve. The needle-embedded carboard package folds up to hold a 45rpm in place, making sound while you spin it with a pencil. Instead of outputting to a speaker, the vibrations go through the needle and into the cardboard, and the sound quality is not bad, from what we’ve heard anyway.

                                  swifting

                                  Sir,
Regarding ‘EU, US re-assess SWIFT data-sharing deal‘:
The statements made by the spokespersons of SWIFT are very worrying. They originally said that servers have been moved to Switzerland and the Netherlands, but now admit that there are still servers in the US which hold EU banking data. Could it be that SWIFT has simply been lying all the time about what is really happening?

                                        Web 3.0 Hype or vision?

When the ICT revolution was at its peak, say 5 years back, already predictions were made that Biology is the next Big field of great Leaps. Like Luca Turin, Andrew Hessel seems to present one of those frontman in the field of bioscience with ICT. The talk above is his view on solving particularly Cancer. But as you will note, his vision on the medical possiblities is much wider. Other fascinating talks of him are here and here.

If you enjoy these “bio-tech” talk, google tech talks is also a good spot for more. These talks are a bit more focused on the tech side.
If you enjoy less the tech and more the HOW. You might like this Ted talk about how we could further improve our healthcare by social tech innovation (ted talk)
