StooTV that shows Raiders of the Lost Ark paired with identical shots from 30 different adventure movies made between 1919 and 1973. Yup, that’s how culture works…at least if we let it. (via)

Will Netcompanies stop barking and act?

Alec Liu of Fox News reports that Amazon, Facebook and Google are considering a coordinated blackout of the internet to protest SOPA, the Stop Online Privacy Act being debated in Congress. When the home pages of Google.com, Amazon.com, Facebook.com, and their Internet allies simultaneously turn black with anti-censorship warnings that ask users to contact politicians about a vote in the U.S. Congress the next day on SOPA,” Declan McCullagh wrote, “you’ll know they’re finally serious.”‘”(slashdot)

pfff.. I do need to see this happen to believe it. According to the Chaos Conference recently, this is just the start of an battle (and not a small one).

            Kopimism – New Official Religion

            d

The SOPA Debate and How It’s Affected by Congress’s Understanding of Child Porn

Though SOPA has taken the spotlight, there is another Internet-related bill on the House Judiciary’s agenda. It’s H.R. 1981, a.k.a The Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011, which proposed a mandate that Internet sites keep track of their users IP information for up to 18 months, to make it easier to investigate Internet crimes – such as downloading child pornography.

                              Very interesting article @ Danwin.com.

Nobel Prize winners 2011 regarding EU crisis

                                  Thomas Sargent
en Christopher Sims. Sargent (New York University) en Sims (Princeton) won the economic nobel prize for their empirical research on cause and effect in the macroeconomy. Like 17 others before them they have a very specific view on the current economic crisis and the European Banking crisis in particular. The video above is a compilation of their press conference at Princeton. While at first they acted dumb, having no opinion, later they clearly critized the EU.
Notice that they see politics, not economic theory as the foremost barrier for the solution.

IBM cuts bit size to 12 atoms

Computerworld – IBM announced Thursday that after five years of work, its researchers have been able to reduce from about one million to 12 the number of atoms required to create a bit of data.
The breakthrough may someday allow data storage hardware manufacturers to produce products with capacities that are orders of magnitude greater than today’s hard disk and flash drives.
“Looking at this conservatively … instead of 1TB on a device you’d have 100TB to 150TB. Instead of being able to store all your songs on a drive, you’d be able to have all your videos on the device,” said Andreas Heinrich, IBM Research Staff Member and lead investigator on this project.
