A Tiny Apartment Transforms into 24 Rooms

In Hong Kong, because of the space, apartments are small and expensive. Gary Chang, an architect, decided to design a 344 sq. ft. apartment to be able to change into 24 different designs, all by just sliding panels and walls. He calls this the “Domestic Transformer.” [via]

Kitty steals your money ;-)

If you think inanimate objects can’t be endearing, try this adorable little piggy bank. From the outside, it just looks like a cardboard box with a plate of fish on it; if you put a coin on the fish, though, you hear a little meow and a cat sneaks its head out of the box and furtively steals the coin away with its paw. Notorious Asian Quirky and Cute Poses

asian poses

Simply smiling in a photo is so boring, why not strike a pose? Asians are notorious for their quirky and cute poses and this site focuses on documenting these poses. To help you recognize various poses, visual aids will be provided courtesy of popular Korean, Japanese, and Chinese models. The site’s style was inspired by the website Stuff White People Like, which often includes witty remarks, sarcasm, and stuff that is offensive if you can’t take a joke.

Lisa Katayama talk at Ignite SF

Here’s a very nicely edited video of my 5-minute slideshow presentation at Ignite SF at the Mezzanine (a night club) on April 1st. There was a technical glitch, and you can see me give the slidemaster a dirty look when it starts getting screwy. It was fun though—I am grateful to have had the opportunity to face that kinda situation in front of hundreds of people. Next time I won’t freak out, I promise.

Lisa is so cool :-)

Against Australian Internet Filtering

b

The Federal Government is planning to force all Australian servers to filter internet traffic and block any material the Government deems ‘inappropriate’. Under the plan, the Government can add any ‘unwanted’ site to a secret blacklist.

Testing has already begun on systems that will slow our internet by up to 87%, make it more expensive, miss the vast majority of inappropriate content and accidentally block up to 1 in 12 legitimate sites. Our children deserve better protection - and that won’t be achieved by wasting millions on this deeply flawed system.

Australia considering a China internet system? That’s really dumb. Next up: No tank man anymore viewable in Australia. Sign the petition to let them know your dissapproval. We don’t need a precedent like this.

Alarm clock you shoot at

Bandai has a new alarm clock coming out on November 15 called the Gun O’Clock. It looks like a normal rectangular alarm clock, but it comes with a gun and target. When the alarm stars ringing, you have to get up, grab your gun, and start shooting. Every time you pull the trigger and miss, you’ll feel the blowback—if you hit the target, the alarm will stop and you can wake up refreshed and satisfied. You can choose from Normal or Hard mode—the latter requires you to hit the target five times.[via]

North Korea’s Kim died in 2003

kim

Is Kim Jong Il dead? Yes, North Korea’s “Dear Leader” is no more, having passed away in the fall of 2003, writes Waseda University professor Toshimitsu Shigemura, professor at the Faculty of International Liberal Studies at Waseda University, in Shukan Gendai (Aug 23-30).

A one-time Mainichi Shimbun journalist posted in Seoul, Shigemura is introduced by the magazine as a leading authority on the Korean Peninsula. His latest book, released this month, is titled “The True Character of Kim Jong Il.”.

If true, the implications are potentially vast. Among them: former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s summit partner during one or both of his landmark visits to Pyongyang in 2002 and 2004 was not Kim himself but a dummy—the stand-in Shigemura claims has been fooling the world for at least five years.

China Bans Bra, Underwear, Sex Toy Ads

BEIJING - China has banned television and radio ads for push-up bras, figure-enhancing underwear and sex toys in the communist government’s latest move to purge the nation’s airwaves of what it calls social pollution.

Regulators have already targeted ads using crude or suggestive language, behavior, and images, tightening their grip on television and radio a few weeks ahead of a twice-a-decade Communist Party congress at which some new senior leaders will be appointed.

The latest move by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, or SARFT, also bans advertisements for sexual aids such as tonics that claim to boost performance in bed.
