Facebook shares almost started with losses

    Astroid Threat now better known

    astroids

NASA’s WISE team has now updated their latest field research. See video below.
NASA’s WISE mission has tracked down 93 percent of the 1 kilometer diameter or larger asteroids whose size could devastate our planet. The project’s asteroid census has revised the total number of NEO’s down from 36,000 to 20,500.
The new NASA study from this may identifies about 4,700 “potentially hazardous” asteroids near Earth.
Dealing with the earth rock threats has, especially since the hollywood movies came out, has been a top 5 action item for NASA. Step B, prevention, is now on the books? Meanwhile commercial space exploration looks for mining them? (more…)

ESM – an ACTA like treaty

Politicians need to be way more open on which democratic grounds they are making treaties. The above videos talks about the ESM draft. Not sure if that is in the final proposal, but democratic papers shouldn’t even contain such words as immunity. What’s going on exactly?

        Terugdraaien vingerafdrukken?

                        Wordcamp stories – Basecamp

At WordCamp San Francisco in August, one of the most popular and well-respected sessions was led by Teru Kuwayama of Basetrack.org. On this day of remembrance, I thought it would be good to share the video of his presentation. Not only is it a very cool example of how WordPress can be used in unexpected ways (this is not your father’s Oldsmobile usual blog), it’s a reminder of how much work still needs to be done to move from war to peace. So here is Taking WordPress to War: Basetrack.org. Peace out, yo. (Jane Wells)

Crap … we’re all going to die if Fukushima collapses

… Ambassador Murata strongly stated that if the crippled building of reactor unit 4—with 1,535 fuel rods in the spent fuel pool 100 feet (30 meters) above the ground—collapses, not only will it cause a shutdown of all six reactors but will also affect the common spent fuel pool containing 6,375 fuel rods, located some 50 meters from reactor 4.

In both cases the radioactive rods are not protected by a containment vessel; dangerously, they are open to the air. This would certainly cause a global catastrophe like we have never before experienced.

Based on U.S. Energy Department data, assuming a total of 11,138 spent fuel assemblies are being stored at the Dai-Ichi site, nearly all, which is in pools. They contain roughly 336 million curies (~1.2 E+19 Bq) of long-lived radioactivity.

About 134 million curies is Cesium-137 — roughly 85 times the amount of Cs-137 released at the Chernobyl accident as estimated by the U.S.

                                Who really wants ACTA?

                                jh

NOTE: Citizens are mostly left out of any detail of ACTA! What’s going on?

NOTE: Where’s the judge in those plans?

                                        WAXY 10 years

                                        h

Ten years ago, I started this site with three simple rules: no journaling, no tired memes, and be original. 18 months later, I added a little linkblog.
In those ten years, I’ve posted 415 entries, including this one, and over 13,000 links.
The decision to start writing here regularly changed my entire life. It’s given me exposure, a place to share my projects and crazy experimentation with technology. It’s created new opportunities for me, directly or indirectly responsible for every major project I’ve gotten involved in. It’s a place to play and experiment with ideas, some of which led to big breakthroughs and passions. And it connected me to people who cared about the things I did, many of whom became lifelong friends.

                                        Congrats Waxy.

But oxytocin, the so-called ‘cuddle hormone’, can dramatically improve male sexual performance, researchers have found – producing results on a par with Viagra. (..) One of the scientists behind the discovery and development of Viagra was so impressed that he described an oxytocin-based treatment as having ‘blockbuster potential’
