Next weekend, the Tour de France will arrive in Rotterdam for their start. With one million extra visitors to town, of course some extra entertainment has been arranged. Kunsthal has made a special exposition about the tour, Tour Experience. The exposition is shaped like france. Its close to the route, so might be a nice idea, while there. Na de strandrellen in Hoek van Holland besloot burgemeester Aboutaleb om het vergunningenbeleid voor evenementen aan te scherpen. Dat betekende voor de Dance Parade onder meer stengere veiligheids- maatregelen en die vindt de organisatie te duur. Ook mochten de wagens met dj’s niet meer door het centrum rijden.

Een meer gekleurde mening is dat burgemeester Aboutaleb, die alles in het werk gesteld heeft om eigen falen te ontkennen bij de strandrellen, hier bewust (door onmogelijke eisen) aanstuurt om juist deze snel verveelde jongerengroep geen activiteiten te geven. Het is wanbeleid, want de groep zal zich in de steek gelaten voelen en dan is het echt bal in de stad.

Rotterdammers zijn trots dat veel cultuur rijke festiviteiten gehouden kunnen worden omdat bestuur, geen angstig beleid voert. Rotterdam durft! is hier zo de slogan bij. Het verschil met betuttelend Amsterdam zoals sommige smalend roepen. En laat nou net, deze burgemeester Aboutaleb, die toch louter voor zijn eigen politieke hachje lijkt te acteren, uit.. jawel Amsterdam komen.

Meer munitie heeft de jongerengroep tegen Aboutaleb niet nodig.

Rotterdam will host the start of the Tour 2010, next year on the 3th and 4th July 2010.
The launch of the preparations was made a few days back. There was competition from other cities, however Rotterdam has generously hosted many cycle events in recent years for national competitions and good will campaigns. The cities experience on major events (eg. Euro2000, BavariaCity Race) with a good proposal “New Energy” made the choice easier.

Rotterdam, 8 sept. In de urine van zwangere vrouwen in Rotterdam zitten vrij veel afbraakproducten van pesticiden, chemische bestrijdingsmiddelen. Méér dan in de urine van zwangere vrouwen in de Verenigde Staten. Dat is de uitkomst van een gezamenlijk onderzoek van het Erasmus Medisch Centrum in Rotterdam en TNO.

The empty street smack down the Rotterdam City Center apparently is here to stay: “de lijnbaan” has become an early “rijks-monument” [number 93].

Ugh ! Sofar for a potential impressive city center, with more elegant high condensed shopping centers, residence, entertainment venues, etc. etc. Gone now.

True, for some part it is a matter of taste and historical conscience. However, it is such a long dominant street, next to main street, it is unavoidable. It blocks the small corporate centers, splits the cultural places and drinking areas. And with only 2 (!) stories high, absolutely no highly demanded economical usage. Moreover, in a largely abstract architecture build city, wouldn’t you want some more warm buildings then small rectangular mini shops. A missed chance..

This year Rotterdam celebrates The year of Architecture. While the city has a rich history, you will find few historic buildings in the city centre. These were bombed away by the germans and especially the fires that followed.

 
Today the city will highlight the burned area with a light show. For those interested I recommend this video documentary about the fires.

While Google Earth and Microsoft Virtual Earth have been around for a while, its good to see that more programmers of events are picking these nice tool up. Nice example is the Marathon of Rotterdam which is held tomorrow.

The organisation has placed the course online in Google Earth.

Tijdens de recente hittegolf leek het mij verstandig om wat verkoeling te zoeken op het strand. Ik had echter geen zin om uren in de file te staan en koos voor de luxe van het strand aan de Maas. Fantastisch uitzicht, lekker terras, redelijke bediening en verse haring en dat alles in het hart van Rotterdam. Kortom ik had het prima naar mijn zin tot een uur of vier. Na vieren sloeg ik bijna de barman achter zijn tap vandaan.

AMSTERDAM - Prijzen voor parkeervergunningen verschillen ‘enorm’, net als de voorwaarden waaronder ze worden verstrekt. Dat schrijft het Algemeen Dagblad donderdag. Volgens de Vereniging Eigen Huis (VEH) is het beleid voor sommige gemeenten een ‘melkkoe’.
De VEH stelt dat het vergunningenbeleid een goede manier is om overlast voor bewoners te verminderen, maar het is voor sommige gemeenten een ‘melkkoe’, een extra bron van inkomsten. De vereniging zegt veel klachten over parkeervergunningen te krijgen. In sommige steden betalen inwoners voor een vergunning, maar blijkt er in de praktijk geen plaats te zijn om de auto te parkeren. De VEH pleit voor landelijke afspraken tussen gemeenten om zo meer uniformiteit in het parkeerbeleid te bereiken.
